  Categorising Rhythms
Posted by: musicianron - 03-06-2018, 09:13 PM - Forum: Rhythmic Styles - No Replies

I've needed to categorise different rhythm tracks for a long time.

What does everyone think of Alive Drumming's method that they use in the App?
The progressive way to select
Meter - e.g. 3/4
Feel - e.g. "Even 8th"
Style - e.g. "Country"
Rhythm - e.g. Nashville
and then
Tempo - e.g. 120 bpm
Instruments - e.g. Sticks only.

I reckon this works fairly well and I find it amazing the way the selection of the next part changes as soon as I select the previous one. Just amazing.

Useful Page - Song Rhythm Tracks
Posted by: musicianron - 03-06-2018, 09:08 PM - Forum: Alive Drumming Web Site. - No Replies

Thanks for the "Song Rhythm Tracks" page on the website. I've found it so useful to both read a nice, brief user manual and watch the two tutorial videos. They are much better than the older ones. Use a player that allows you to press pause easily, and those two videos will tell you everything you need to know about Song Rhythm Tracks. They are just great!!!

  Great Sounding Tracks
Posted by: musicianron - 03-06-2018, 08:59 PM - Forum: iOS App - Song Rhythm Tracks - No Replies

I just want to say that I think Song Rhythm Tracks is by far and away the best sounding Rhythmic backing service I have ever heard. The tracks sound so natural and exciting - not a bit like that terrible mechanical drumming you hear the kids listening to today. This real, natural drumming has every sort of nuance that mechanical drums just don't have. It's great playing and gigging with these tracks and so convenient! It's a shame that the service gets confused with those rubbish MIDI drum machines. There are hundreds of them on the App Store and they are all rubbish.

Just great. Keep it up!

What do you guys think? Great or Average?

Feature Request: Allow any user-defined SongForm using an algebraic naming scheme.
Posted by: MatthewH - 08-21-2017, 06:53 AM - Forum: iOS App - Song Rhythm Tracks - Replies (1)

Alive Drumming is considering allowing arbitrary length, user-defined SongForms using the scheme below,
4|4|4|4 (like a 16-bar Tune)
8|8/8|8 (like 32-bar AABA)
12|4|8/6|4 (for a scheme with no convenient name currently)
This scheme would supplement the current one of picking a SongForm from a list. i.e. the user could choose either method.
Pro - Reduces or removes the limitation on the SongForms to be used with the app.
Pro - Improves the usability of the app for many people who do not readily know the meaning of the SongForms names used currently.
Con - May introduce additional complexity for some users.

Feature Request: Provide option for Fade-in and Fade-out of track
Posted by: MatthewH - 08-21-2017, 06:39 AM - Forum: iOS App - Song Rhythm Tracks - No Replies

Alive Drumming is considering providing option to fade-in and/or fade-out the track.
Pro - Fade-in - Can help reduce the loudness of the count-in for those who prefer to keep this quiet.
Pro - Fade-out - Some songs lend themselves better to fade out.
Con - App simplicity is reduced making it more challenging, particularly for new users.

Feature Request: Provide option for uncompressed audio
Posted by: MatthewH - 08-21-2017, 06:36 AM - Forum: iOS App - Song Rhythm Tracks - No Replies

Alive Drumming is considering providing an option to have uncompressed audio as an alternative to the current compressed form of MPEG 3.
Pro - Higher quality audio possible
Con - Higher download bandwidth
Con - Higher storage space utilisation
Con - Might create perception that current audio files are not high quality, when they are.
Con - Another option to consider, complicating the use of the app.

Feature Request: Provide option for selective higher energy middle-choruses
Posted by: MatthewH - 08-21-2017, 06:31 AM - Forum: iOS App - Song Rhythm Tracks - No Replies

Alive Drumming is consider providing the option to have the option to have middle choruses either higher energy or not.
Pros - Greater facility for experienced musicians
Cons - Another thing to confuse less experienced musicians
